Zoom in! Japanese-German Energy Transition Talks on Battery Storage Systems
On January 21, we zoomed-in on battery storage systems in Germany and Japan during the eighth session of our “Zoom-In! – Japanese-German Energy Transition Talks” series.
During the session, Beatrice Schulz, BVES Energy Storage Systems Association and Dr. Yukari Sato, Deputy Director, National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) shared the current developments around energy flexibilization through battery storage. Ms. Schulz spoke about the local and temporal availability of RES, the new structural changes to the system resulting from it and and how battery storage systems can and already are helping deal with these new challenges. Ms. Sato spoke about large-scale energy storage systems and long-term energy storage, in particular the redox flow battery was presented in detail. Both speakers also laid out current market trends in the two countries. In the following discussion, participants were especially curious about the respective legislative frameworks in Germany and Japan.
The dialogue series is initiated by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy and organized by The Japanese-German Energy Partnership Team (German Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Japan (AHK Japan), OAV - German Asia-Pacific Business Association and adelphi).
