WG2: Roundtable on Overcoming Barriers for the Implementation of Hydrogen Projects

On 17 September 2025, the Japanese-German Energy Partnership welcomed business leaders, government officials, and experts from both countries to a WG2 roundtable event at the German Embassy in Tokyo. The event focused on practical solutions for accelerating hydrogen projects and strengthening bilateral cooperation.

In addition to presentations on the national hydrogen strategies of Japan and Germany from METI and BMWE, speakers and participants shared insights on the latest market developments, and opportunities for collaboration. A key theme was the need to make financing more accessible and effective—especially for innovative projects and small and medium-sized enterprises. Discussions highlighted the importance of clear and harmonised certification standards to help companies bring hydrogen technologies to market more quickly and efficiently.

The roundtable also addressed the importance of building robust hydrogen supply chains and infrastructure, as well as the value of international partnerships for advancing the hydrogen economy. Both Japanese and German stakeholders reaffirmed their strong commitment to working together, overcoming regulatory and technical barriers, and supporting the global transition to clean energy.
