Zoom in! Japanese-German Energy Transition Talks on Renewable Energy Potentials and Spatial Usage Conflicts
On September 9, it was time again to zoom-in on renewable energy potentials and spatial usage conflicts in Germany and Japan during the sixth session of our "Zoom In! - Japanese-German Energy Transition Talks" series.
We had the privilege of hearing from Dr. Carsten Pape (Fraunhofer IEE), who shared insights on the process of estimating potential areas mainly for wind energy in Germany. He highlighted how to account for key challenges such as noise, visibility, and regulatory constraints and emphasizing the value of having a clear overview of permissible wind turbine locations to streamline planning. On the Japanese side, Dr. Hironau Matsubara Kobayashi (Institute for Sustainable Energy Policies) provided valuable perspectives on the country's solar and wind energy potential and the current state of renewable energy deployment in international comparison.
