6th Meeting of Hydrogen Working Group

The Japanese-German Energy Partnership yesterday held its 6th Meeting of the Hydrogen Working Group (WG2) at the World Hydrogen Summit 2025 (WorldHydrogen2025) in Rotterdam, marking another milestone in the bilateral cooperation on energy transition.

Shinichi Kihara, Director General for International Policy on Carbon Neutrality at ANRE, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and Dr. Axel Bree, Deputy Director-General for Hydrogen Ramp-up and Energy Research at Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy exchanged on key energy policy topics and developments in both countries. Together with the Co-Chairs of the Hydrogen Working Group Dr. Christine Falken-Großer (BMWE) and Daisuke Hirota (ANRE, METI), the meeting fostered in-depth discussions on energy and hydrogen policies in both countries. The meeting showed once again how similar the circumstances and challenges for the energy transition and the hydrogen market ramp-up are in both countries. Both sides renewed their clear commitment to an even closer exchange on lessons learned and policy measures in the future.

To further advance the work of the hydrogen working group in the core areas
     - hydrogen demand creation and use,
     - hydrogen finance and regulatory framework,
     - and hydrogen infrastructure and safety,
the co-chairs discussed how stakeholders from industry and research can be involved in the collaboration even more effectively in the future. This gathering underscores the commitment of Japan and Germany to advancing hydrogen technologies and accelerating the energy transition. By sharing knowledge and aligning strategies, both countries pave the way for innovative solutions in the rapidly evolving hydrogen sector.
